Class is taught to accommodate all levels. Ease up or make it more challenging based on the moment. This is a great way for beginners to test the waters for intermediate.
Class is taught to accommodate all levels. 45 minute class. Expand your lungs from the shallow breath of sleep. Open and unravel your body from hours of being stationary. Get your brain going with balance, breath, and left/right body connections.
Class is taught to accommodate all levels, but be prepared to challenge yourself. Arm balances, standing balances, and inversions from beginner to intermediate. Spend time practicing these poses to face yours fears, learn the muscles needed, and to just have fun. We'll start with warm ups, focus on a few balance and/or inverted poses, and then wind down. Do as much or as little as you're comfortable with.
Balancing poses are great exercise for your brain. They also strengthen and tone muscles and internal organs. Practice focus and meditation.
Inversions aren't for everyone, but there are a few that are accessible to most. Practice in a safe environment. Do something you didn't think you could do! Be strong, be brave!
8-week series with 2 week break.
Learn 1-hour of the Ashtanga Primary Series over the course of the 8 weeks. Each week will focus on a different aspect to help the student learn and refine. Ashtanga is a form of yoga that has a specific sequence of the same poses. This is great for students wanting to learn a practice to do on their own at home, traveling, or where ever.
Ashtanga originated in India with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). The asana (pose) sequence is designed to warm up, strengthen, and stretch the body.

To get the most out of an Intermediate class, we recommend students have experienced at least 3 yoga classes prior. Have a basic knowledge of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations) as these are the foundation for most Hatha style classes. Intermediate means it may be a little faster paced and with more challenging poses. Do as much or as little as you can. Remember, challenge does make you grow stronger. Also, you won't know what you need to work on if you don't step outside your comfort zone.
Most importantly, just have fun.
Melanie hosts Open Studio Sundays from 10am-12pm. This time is self-lead. If a teacher happens to be present, it is for their own practice. Use the props, the space, and the books. Come in quietly, do as much or as little as you want, then leave quietly. Please be respectful of others practicing meditation, asana, balance, inversion, and savasana.
Yin is a different kind of yoga practice that uses gravity and completely relaxed muscles. In Yin, stretching poses are held for 3-5 minutes. Students are challenged with relaxing and releasing their body weight to the forces of gravity. Yin allows for deeper stretches. This is not recommended for anyone with a pulled muscle, existing joint pain, or current/recent pregnancy (relaxin hormone makes the body too flexible).
Yin w/ trivia is intended to get your mind off your tension, to talk and laugh and breathe, and just have a good time. Yin is not always the most comfortable practice, intentionally. If your hips are tight, you'll feel this. Not gonna lie.
Each month, YOGA Talks presents a different topic of discussion and/or practice. Students are encouraged to suggest ideas and even present topics! Topics may include: anatomy, chakras, meditation, mindfulness, poetry, book club, living yoga, and more.
Check the newsletter, class schedule, Facebook, or Instagram for the topic of the month. This is not a series, so don't worry if you miss some, however, the more the merrier!
Do wear comfortable clothing in case we move, but be prepared to sit in the floor. Props are available for comfortable sitting.
Use your best judgement. I live within walking distance of the studio as do many of our students. If it's not safe to drive, don't drive. I will post on the Yoga Happiness Facebook and Instagram pages if classes are cancelled.
